Dunger by Joy Cowley. the title fits the book well!
I liked how the book changes perspective with each chapter, for example, one chapter would be Will and it would be from Wills perspective. then the next chapter would be Mellissa and it would be from Mellissa's perspective.
the major them it that there is no power so will and Mellissa have to learn to adapt to life without power.
Joy Cowley is trying to teach us that there are other ways to live than just phones and internet.
I don't know what the most important part of the text is yet.
the audience is aged 11 - 15 I think
my favourite character was will and my least favourite was Melissa
the only new word I have learned so far is dunger, a worn-out vehicle or machine.
I really connect with will because he wants to get out there and drive and be free!
Today I read chapters 27 - 31
Everything gets intense and scary. first, there is a storm so there isn't much to do. will and melissa make bread and then play scrabble at their grandma and grampas place. there is not power and not reception and the phone lines out. grampa takes Will to the garage and gets him to repair rods but they are too high up and the ladder is outside in the storm. so they get a barrel and grampa gets up on it. but then he passes out knocked out cold on the concrete. his face is bleeding and will think he's dead. will gets Melissa and then he gets grama. then will is chosen to drive to the hospital because if their phone line is out the neighbours is out.
That is all I have read today.
